Re: Let's start a Friday thread
I didn't, GLO. It was reported in Peets by someone else, (not Someone Else, the mod), Dunlurkin I think.

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
No, I forgot to ask the handyman, intending to go and ask the locksmith, and didn't go out at all. I used the WD40, lots of it, but it was at the striker plate end not the lock end, which was operating the central locking with commendable and prompt set of clicks. Usually, when I lock the tailgate, ...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
Happy Friday! Walking, an almost forgotten pleasure. I had to forgo the chance yesterday because I couldn't open the tailgate and had to come home to extract the dog by other means. A trip to the locksmith this afternoon beckons, if the handyman can't help.

Re: The "Bowman" Board
So now the Village Pump has opened. I've had a look. Mermaid is the administrator, and the mods are anonymous - again! Thanks but no thanks. I've had enough of that kind of spite.

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
I can understand Birmingham needing appeals panels. The schools seem to vary between really good and really disappointing. Even so, DD's old school was much better than mine ever was. I've encountered some drivers who are aggressive, but also we, the other cars, vans and lorry drivers in that bit of...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
A lady who taught me A level French told me that if you wash your rear windscreen it makes them see the back of your car and they stop following the back of your head. I've tried it and it works. Unfortunately, my rear windscreen washer has packed up. I took it in and the radiator was leaking and th...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
Having done the M54/A5 from Birmingham to Caernarfon a few times, the drive from Cork to Skibbereen was quite startlingly similar. A dramatic turn left for Llangollen, followed by twisty roads in woodland afterwards was so like the turn down to Bandon and West from there, that in places I forgot whi...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
I remember when I went to my Auntie's funeral in Durrus. It was suggested I took the Sheep's Head path over the hill. The road climbing what looked a sheer cliff was pointed out to me, but the car handled it quite well. The views were spectacular, and the road drifted away to the N71 into Bantry. As...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
I lived in a fairly rural area. My mother couldn't walk down the street in the local small town without stopping or being stopped by other locals determined to chat. It would take about 90 minutes to walk 400 yards. She sent us to do the shopping as soon as we were big enough. I was addicted to Mars...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
Our thermostats are rarely 'fit for purpose', are they! I can cope with most temperatures except summer evenings that have me crouching in my chair, almost shivering while I carry on with what I was doing. Sir Billy Connolly said while disrobing in the Arctic, "There's no such thing as weather,...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
Our local bus driver drove me almost mad with the question "What's three thirds of fourpence?" I nearly turned my brain inside out just doing the calculation, then when I reached the only possible answer, I had to admit that even apparently uneducated adults had more about them than you'd ...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
Oh dear GLO! That sounds a bit slow. I did enjoy a treasure hunt in cars with silly clues, and often the answers are standard. A pair of green knickers was 2 pound notes, and a soldier in uniform was Wellington on the £5 note. Our most successful barbecues were both breakfast ones. The grass verge b...

Re: Let's start a Friday thread
Phew! I thought I had broken it! It's been an interesting day. I had a phone call this morning to pre-pone my appointment with the hip replacement consultant by a month, so it's at the end of this month instead of next. I also got round to ringing the garage about the Volvo, and he can fit me in on ...

Re: The Cricket Thread 2017
I recall in my childhood, my father went up to Leeds to see the Test Match at Headingley. Since he was staying with our accountant and his wife, I was also invited and was allowed to go on condition that I knew my 6 times table. By the time we got there, my father had drilled me up to the 8 times, w...

Re: The "Bowman" Board
It's nice to do the shock! horror! thing sometimes though. Poor Angie, Sue was fairly experienced and could keep the Proboards people in their place, but she is probably learning from first principles. I get the impression that Proboards are a little to the Right of Ghenghis Khan. Though the more I ...

Re: Tuesday
I think it was a friend request disguised as a message request. I thought I'd explain who I was, but it was surprising how the signs of recent debacle were all there last August. I've been in FB for years and still haven't worked out how it works. I just stamp on all requests to play Candy Crush, bl...

Re: The "Bowman" Board
I'm glad you're staying, GLO. I didn't ask you to because you are free to decide for yourself. The Duke of Wellington was a useful politician - but his usefulness was limited in civilian life. (I'm doing a Future Learn course on Waterloo).
Thanks for your FB message ATB.

Re: The "Bowman" Board
Yes, having a few problems nothing like yours of course, but realised that if you laugh and be happy, it doesn't make you any worse, but you feel happier about it.

Perish the thought! You're probably much better at home with the parrot, the dogs the cats and the husband than languishing in hospital. Get Well Soon! Mwah!
