Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

I'd wait until the effect wears off before you try anything else, but press-ups have to be the silliest exercises ever. They don't improve anything and only tire you out. Just mountaineered the heating cupboard. All the gauges are in silly places and readings are incomprehensible. Found a company to...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

Yes, My neighbour's two dogs, (over the road) a German Shepherd and a Border collie, also my BC soon learned that the tiny kitten growing to a pretty small moggy when adult was the boss of the place. It's not too cold outside, but the heating isn't coming on. I had to use my little convector using 1...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

Yes, it's uncanny how they tell you what you need to know. Almost always with penetrating looks. I do go back to bed and read for a while but somehow I hear something and when I go to investigate, she's there waiting for me to let her in. Now I've spent a few hours getting up and giving up, I know w...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

The rain stopped this morning and it turned out nice again.

It seems pretty cold standing in my doorway waiting for her maj to finish with the garden, several times a night and patrolling the estate on a whim while she expects me to be there to open the door to let her back in again.

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

I meant She doesn't weigh much for her size. 17 Kilos, and she's underweight, but she's very gentle and wouldn't cause any pain. We are having gales here and because I went up to the North Hill, a spur from Exmoor for a walk with Cassie just before doing the shopping, It was more of a hurricane with...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

Sorry you are having problems with your consultant. Never easy to contact at the best of times. I hope your toothache has cleared up now. One toothache turned out to be sinus after an inordinate amount of pain. I hope my insulation reduces the viola output sound. My piano tuner neighbour opposite of...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

Another Monday. I was a little ahead of my cleaners. We agreed on the perfidy of some local garage mechanics, but I didn't say which I preferred. If they skip a stage you think is important like regulating power steering fluid so the bubbles stop, you don't use them for anything important. She's hav...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

I looked out this morning when I woke up properly to see the fog over the hill was gone and the fields were bathed in sunshine. The first thing I had noticed was that the flood lake had dried up. I felt cheerful enough to give a horsey snort. Some time, years ago I wondered why horses do it. The onl...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

I think you can switch the phone on again. You can only take one call at a time. The PALS office was supposed to be able to sort out problems for patients afraid of revenge attacks after complaints. I know that after a long day of getting no results for enquiries, a request for directions to the PAL...

Re: Yet another February - Spring in The air (why should I?)

Ring your GP and tell them you can't go that far. But wait a week and see if they ring you. They should have swept you up long since. A diabetical elderly gent of your distinguishment should get better treatment. I had chainsaw neighbours for awhile, but they seem to have finished massacring each ot...

Re: January again!

Yes, horses and ponies are deemed to have been born on 1 January. A silly idea especially for those born in the autumn. I grew up on a farm where all the lambs were born in spring. All my dogs seem to have been born in April, and kittens anytime, but often late spring. I had a litter of kittens to r...

Re: January again!

No need to squeam. The bread arrived safely. Hovis Granary thick sliced is only available locally if the farmers haven't descended from the hills to stuff their freezers or if Tesco's have ordered enough. They told me by email about two things they didn't have but they didn't matter. Everything else...

Re: January again!

Happy Birthday. We were neck and neck yesterday, but now you've forged ahead and are a year older than me again. I used to have a couple of months levelling with Blunders but I'm 6 years ahead of him now. I'm still waiting for my Covid appointment, but I'm in no hurry. I had another letter about shi...

Re: January again!

My memory is going a bit. I have missed 2 zoom meetings this week, but it's because the calendar on my phone only shows if I look at it. Because I want to avoid car breakdowns, I keep the phone in my handbag and don't get it out in a hurry. I must set up a few subroutines about bringing my bag into ...

Re: January again!

It was much quieter here for a while, but we had another storm which got exciting. I sometimes wonder if we'll get another Tsunami in the West Country, and I don't relish having to head for the hills if it happens. The last time was in the 1600s so I should be safe enough. When I stood with a friend...

Re: January again!

I was chatting once to a man at a look out point above Porlock bay who told me that up the coast between Porlock Hill and the Devon border, there was a small beach non accessible from land where the U boat fleet used to get fresh water supplies. Nobody knew until after the war and people became more...

Re: January again!

Yes, I remember the floods of 1953. It gets revisited from time to time on Radio 4. The heroism of the wireless operator on the mailboat from Scotland to Belfast. He stayed at his post and went down with the boat. The loss of life at Southend, but perhaps the Essex Marshes weren't as highly populate...

Re: January again!

The tip was quiet because of the rain. Does Mr Legs live by the tip or does the tip operate near him? One of my favourite walks was at Sheepwash by Dudley Port. It used to be a brickworks, then a tip then the pits were allowed to fill with water and about 50 acres became a nature reserve. There was ...

Re: January again!

No, Don't worry, that was yesterday. I've been home for over 24 hours now. RAC have asked for the receipt for the new tyre and call out charge, which was sent to my gardener's mobile phone. He and I had just taken a couple of bags of brambles to the tip when the puncture was spotted. I must go out d...

January again!

Maybe things will get better. On "Not the Nine o Clock News', they did an item about extensive research into recent ills and found itwas all the fault of the little man in the off licence. The poor chap was aghast by the news but there was no appeal. The voiceover (Pamela Stephenson) continued ...
