Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

Privet doesn't need extending. Ours suddenly made a bid for outer space in one season. My husband had a fear of heights - or ladders, but had at least a foot advantage in height and much more in reach. Was the Coronation coach supposed to go in a matchbox or was that full size? I'm sure you can find...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

I have so many books to provide passwords along with random numbers. Capitals can be popped in at weird places too. To ring the changes any word of more than 7 letters can be used. There is some good modern Church music, which I have heard at 3 Choirs Festival concerts. John Rutter, Judith Weir and ...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

Bravo! I assume that I can simply forget my password then I can set a new one or reuse the one I was trying to use before.

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

Maybe the coffee blenders did what I was taught to do. Grinding individual roasted beans between their teeth to get the true taste. Java is muscular and rich. Mocha is round and Gamey, Kenya is smooth and mild. I like full flavoured without bitterness, so Central American and Caribbean don't get any...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

Walls was pretty disgusting ice cream. I was disenchanted by the age of 9. Having sensitive teeth helped. I did like the choc ices at the cinema. They are 10 for £1 now. I used to have coffee ice cream at the Kardomah. A coffee house in Birmingham. The Ice cream had little pieces of ice in it. The i...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

I haven't had mine either. Maybe it got lost behind the new wallpaper in No 10. I went up to Church this morning. It was my turn to lead the intercessions. The Rector's wife remarked how they always fit in with the sermon. Always written by different people with no idea of what the rector is going t...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

I hope Ginger George was not offended. Glad you found his proper home. He'll be back I expect so a little kitten food might come in useful. I've been looking for wild swimming locations in my home county for a friend, but unless you can talk to the locals, even promising sites can have their drawbac...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

It was what is now called an installation. a cigar shaped object which like the economy at the time, had "no visible means of support". I don't remember seeing it, but in those days i could never see the wood for the trees. I watched the film "The Dig" about the Sutton Hoo discov...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

They had two films of the Coronation alleged to be identical except that the colour of the velvet on the Crown was more purple than the other. We were asked which one we were taken to see from our school. We voted to see both, and to our great surprise we went to both films. I think in our little Wo...

Re: Wednesday is the Anniversary of The Coronation...

Yes. I'm fine. I had written a long screed only to lose it because I was going to check something and got side tracked so didn't post it. I came out of a meeting last Wednesday, posted my brother's birthday card and promptly lost my balance and fell in the middle of the road in the village. I was re...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

I spent Tuesday going for a walk with my beloved sister. She of the 5 mile walks. I manage about 700 steps on a good day and trying not to be a killjoy managed eventually 4988 steps round the Westonbirt Arboretum including going to the hotel (Hare and Hounds) for lunch. I regretted not changing my g...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

A plateau is a space of level ground where a crowd can gather to see you make a fool of yourself. By 'you' I also mean me, or anyone. A nature reserve behind the Thames barrier could be a good place to walk with a friend or sit and listen to the birds. Not those silly plastic boxes with headphones a...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

A fort is a garrison and sometimes weapons store. Often a trading post because the merchandise is protected. A Castle is, or can be a weapon of war. Its prime purpose is to control the surrounding countryside and to advance the border. Ludlow had/has a castle but the trading is done in the town outs...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

I remember when they announced on the national news that the Krays had been arrested. "Who on earth are they?" I wondered. Tomorrow's afternoon drama is based in the East End, "The Corrupted" by GF Newman. When I went to Colchester, I was visiting a friend, so never got to see an...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

I really tried to forgive the tool borrowing but it was too persistent. He was a Gemini with too much mercurial influence. Otherwise he was a joy and delight. I did visit Braintree once and was chiefly impressed by the library. Not as compared with other libraries but with other premises in the town...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

I like the look of the Chinese New Year Dragons, but maybe that space was a little too small for it. Are they doing up Braintree instead? Or just everywhere else in Essex? We would never have earned a Dunmow flitch. We were pretty combative most of the time owing to my OH helping himself to my tools...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

The Hobby horse arrives in the town around Mayday. It's a withy frame about the size of a small upside down boat that dances through the town, accompanied by a drum and a squeezebox, and collectors. People are expected to donate or be booted ten times, only if they present themselves confronting the...

Re: Mayday, Mayday

Or naked gardening? No fear. I may get dressed and go and see if the Hobby horse is dancing on the Quay in Minehead. I'm more than a little unsettled by it to tell the truth. Very little scares me, but there's more than a hint of menace about it. I think if you are a local and know who's inside it's...

Re: Stayed in bed to avoid April 1st

Another lovely day. People are longing for rain and my pots need water. I only water the garden sporadically because I want the plants to survive not get addicted to the stuff. I've never thought that Prince Eddy was involved. Probably did a lot of things he shouldn't but was more likely to have bee...

Re: Stayed in bed to avoid April 1st

The 1911 coronation was quite an event. I was telling an elderly chap back in the 1980s about my father being peeved that they wouldn't le him turn the spit with an ox on it. He was 6 and looked 4. The old bloke said in his local park the Fire service action display was disrupted when someone set fi...
