Re: Aptil Fools Day (and Month)
It happened here in the early days of lockdown, but it's gone quieter. I'm waiting for a delivery. If I go and have a shower, they will come while I'm in there. But if I don't, I'll be waiting all day.

Re: Aptil Fools Day (and Month)
During the early part of the war, Smarts of Small Heath Birmingham were bombed out and rented out my grandfather's 2 oasthouses in Shropshire to store their equipment. Then presumably because food was needed, they set it all up and started making sausages and pork pies of appalling quality. My mothe...

Re: Aptil Fools Day (and Month)
Of course you didn't waste your time. They paid you, didn't they? You do seem to be making progress wit your correct address. The Poll Card was a coup de foudre. If of a different style. If I remember I'll ask my Railway friend if he recalls the Motrice. I was struggling to collect my prescription t...

Are you renewing wit the same company? I got waylaid with the FSC website. They sell lots of guides on anything in the wildlife field you can possibly imagine, including trees. When you were working with two other people who were named after you, was that when you were identified as "the good lo...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
Own Brand does have plenty of jelly, but who knows what they use to pad out loaf food? I think own brand is all made by the same company with slightly different recipes. I give Cassie half and half mixer and meat. The mixer (Wagg) is allegedly 'complete'. We used to feed earlier border collies on ba...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
Yes we can get out, but I time my forays for approaching dusk, about when everyone is having their tea. Shopping is easier then too. I received my instruction today from HMG by text to stay at home. I stopped socialising a fortnight ago Today I walked round my garden enjoying the spring. Very excite...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
I'm locked down. I was going to meet my sister at Westonbirt tomorrow but we agreed last night that it was better not. I joined Gareth Malone's Choir today, even though I missed the first rehearsal, my daughter sent me the link and I caught up later on You Tube. I sent a message to my nephew in Spai...

Just before my last year at Birmingham. Cassie is fine. We went to Webbers Post below Dunkery Beacon for our walk a...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
We Editors must mock unsavoury political acts so that they don't go unnoticed. It is a sacred task. Besides, many good politicians try their best and should also be lauded. Most politicians start out with good intentions but the Whip system starts the downward slide. In my work as temporary secretar...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
Iv'e been a co-editor of a local magazine which took the mickey out of local politicians one of whom was leader of the city council. Over a couple of years the power shifted to the opposite camp. We mocked the corruption and the lack of accountability of the Business district and that went well. We ...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
It's a bit far for me. If it was in the Bristol Channel I might be tempted. I went to a parish magazine editor's training this morning. The road was slightly flooded in places, but only shallowly, and it has almost dispersed on the way back. I had a rest on the bed in preparation for tonight's quiz....

Re: Beware The Ides of March
Cassie used in her youth to try and befriend cats but they used to run away. Then she met one sunning itself by a tree, took a few steps towards him whereupon he stood up, growled and spat. Cassie shied away and yelped in surprise, but treated cats with caution thereafter. Our friendly neighbour who...

Re: Beware The Ides of March
My apologies. If the vet says he's not got anything that shouldn't be there, a cardboard box may do the trick of giving him a treat. I could always send some dreamies in ignorance.

A very small one. You've been saying he's a fat cat. It's the thought that counts.
A thought cake in a cardboard box nearly big enough for him.

Re: February, 2020 - Approaching the Solstace and More daylight
Tomorrow is Leap day. Some friends of mine got married that day in 1990. I ought to do something special tomorrow to mark the day. I just feel like staying in bed, but my gardener wants to come between the torrents of rain, so I should get up and dressed by 9 am in case the weather is good. My bedsi...

i have some income paid direct into a savings account to protect it from being spent on the wrong things. The dog has her own account to pay for vet's bills etc. She paid my dentist bill in January. She could afford it. I went to Wells this afternoon. The satnav took me through Shapwick on the Somer...

Re: February, 2020 - Approaching the Solstace and More daylight
I've booked an appointment on Thursday to have my brakes renewed on the back axle. The front ones were done as MOT failure repairs, There's an replacement indicator unit on the back seat, after I discovered the hedge at the top of the hill was a little more substantial than it looked. The lens was b...
